Title:
Phytochemicals and the breakthrough of traditional herbs in the
management of sexual dysfunctions.
Author(s) Adimoelja,
A | Journal: Int-J-Androl.2000; 23 Suppl 282-4 0105-6263
Abstract:
Traditional herbs have been a revolutionary breakthrough in the
management of erectile dysfunction and have become known
world-wide as an ‘instant’ treatment. The modern view of the
management of erectile dysfunction subscribes to a single
etiology, i.e. the mechanism of erection. A large number of
pharmacological agents are orally consumed and vasoactive agents
inserted intraurethrally or injected intrapenially to regain
good erection. Modern phytochemicals have developed from
traditional herbs. Phytochemicals focus their mechanism of
healing action to the root cause, i.e. the inability to control
the proper function of the whole body system. Hence
phytochemicals manage erectile dysfunction in the frame of
sexual dysfunction as a whole entity. Protodioscin is a
phytochemical agent derived from Tribulus terrestris L plant,
which has been clinically proven to improve sexual desire and
enhance erection via the conversion of protodioscine to DHEA
(De-Hydro-Epi-Androsterone). ... etc.

Epimedium
Epimedium is
appropriately nicknamed Horny Goat Weed. Epimedium is an herb
that increases sexual activity in men and enhances sperm
production. Epimedium has been
used for centuries in order to promote sexual performance. Scientific research has shown
epimedium to have libido enhancer
functions as well as supporting frequency, stamina, and erectile function.

Eurycoma
Longifolia
Eurycoma has a
long history of traditional use in Southeast Asia, where it is
known as Tongkat Ali or Pasak Bumi. Although scientific research
on Eurycoma is still in its early stages, the research that has
been conducted has demonstrated a link between the use of
eurycoma extracts and the increase of testosterone in
human subjects.

Macuna Pruriens
Macuna pruriens
is an organic herbal product native to India. It naturally
contains 15% L-dopa. L-Dopa is routinely converted into dopamine
in the body. A natural aphrodisiac, macuna has been shown to
increase testosterone levels. In addition, macuna increases
muscle mass, muscle strength, and aids in protein synthesis.

Ginkgo Biloba
Ginkgo biloba
extract increases circulation to the brain and the extremities. It makes platelets less sticky, which helps prevent embolisms
and artherosclerosis. By increasing blood flow to the brain,
ginkgo biloba may prevent mental deterioration and dementia in
elderly patients; some studies have shown that GBE [gingko
biloba extract] may slow (or
even stop) the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
Because of its
ability to improve circulation, GBE has been used for a variety
of vascular conditions, including Raynaud’s syndrome, impotence
caused by impaired blood flow, and claudication in the legs. There is some evidence that GBE may also reduce some symptoms of
PMS, including fluid retention, congestion and breast
tenderness.

Cnidium
Monnier
The Chinese have
used this herb for centuries in order to enhance male sexual
potency. Cnidium monnier stimulates the production of cyclic
GMP (cGMP). cGMP affects the relaxation of smooth muscle tissue
which in turn allows the arteries in the male organ to expand
and fill with blood. Our formulation uses a 50% osthole
standardized raw material.
Cnidium Monnier
increases the release of nitric oxide, which activates more
enzymes that make the substance cGMP, which relaxes the muscles
around the penis area and in turn causes the penis to swell.

Butea Superba
Propreitary Extract
ABSTRACT
Flavonoid
(3,7,3’-Trihydroxy-4’-methoxyflavone--[1] & flavonoid
glycoside (3,3’dihvdroxy-4’methuxyflavone-7)p.-Dglucopyranoside)--[2] were isolated from the roots of Butea superba Roxb. The
structures were determined on the basis of spectral analysis,
including 2D-NMR lechiiK-lues. These compounds show strong
inhibitory effects on cAMP phosphodiesterase.
INTRODUCTION
Butea superba
Roxb is a herb in the Family Papilionaceae and has the
characteristics of being a crawler that wraps itself around
large trees. One branch has 3 leaves, the flowers are of a
yellowish orange color and the plants grog’s out in the open. The long roots of the plant
are buried under the ground like the roots of a yam. This
type of plant reproduces through seeds and the separation of its
roots. This plant can be found growing in forests in the
the northern regions, in the eastern regions and along Kanchanaburi Province
[Thailand]. The roots and stems of the plants
are medicines for strength and power. In addition, the roots
and stem of the plant are considered to help increase the male
sexual performance. Thus, this plant has come to be known as
one type of miracle herb. Since Butea superba Roxb. helps to
enhance the human health, this was considered to be an
influential factor in separating the chemical constituents of
this herb. The bioactivity of each constituent was tested,
especially the inhibitory effect towards cAMP phosphodiesterase,
which has an effect in controlling the body and controlling
a wide number of diseases [1]. Therefore, it was planned to
conduct research on the bioactivity of these chemical
constituents in order to prove whether this herb is actually
capable of enhancing the human health as stated beforehand.
Butea Superba Roxb-
is composed of substances that are effective in
inhibiting the cAMP phosphodieslerase enzyme, which are very
beneficial to the human body. At least, when taking this herb,
the body will begin to feel healthier. This herb will help
control the numerous diseases mentioned beforehand.
The attributes
of this herb in increasing the male sexual performance is most
probably due to the inhibiting of cAMP phosphodiesterase, which
in turn has an effect on the aldosterone hormone.
